FEDUSA Welcomes Appointment of Dr Randall Carolissen as NSFAS Administrator

20 August 2018

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) has welcomed Higher Education and Training Minister Naledi Pandor’s appointment of SARS Group Executive for Revenue Planning, Analysis and Reporting Dr Randall Carolissen as the Administrator of crisis-ridden NSFAS following the dissolution of its Board and the resignation of Board Chairman Sizwe Nxasana. Carolissen is also Chairman of Wits University Council.

FEDUSA General Secretary Dennis George said the massive 2017 NSFAS pay-out backlog under the watch of incumbent CEO Steven Zwane – who many in the labour movement want to see dismissed with immediate effect for his inept management of the Scheme – has left many students from poor and working class backgrounds destitute and their studies ruined and thrown into disarray.

“Education is the most potent weapon that poor and working class students can use to change their lives for the better and to achieve social equality. The appointment of Dr Carolissen by Minister Pandor in the context of the massive NSFAS 2017 backlog and ahead of the 2019 academic year couldn’t have come at a better time,” said George.
