18 October 2022
The Leadership of the Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) has welcomed the settlement of the 8 – day long strike by the Federation’s affiliated union, UNTU, following the deadlock with Transnet over the 2022 wage negotiations. The concluding agreement signified a multi – year wage settlement from 01 April 2022 to 31 March 2025.
FEDUSA equally applauds the role of the CCMA in providing the basis for the recommendations that paved the way for the agreement. Taking due cognizance of the impact of the strike on the economy and key sectors affected, UNTU members as responsible trade unionists, rose to the occasion and accepted a below – inflation increase, following a further round of mandating that consequently brought an end to the strike action.
UNTU members have resumed duties with immediate effect, as the strike action was officially called – off and normal – scheduled working times and shifts resumed.
FEDUSA salutes our members who displayed unity and discipline throughout the course of the protected strike.
