FEDUSA CONDEMNS MBOWENI’S FAT PAY RISE

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) has come out strongly against the 28% pay rise given to the South African Reserve Bank governor, Mr Tito Mboweni.  Mboweni was given this pay increase in the past financial year, more than four times the upper end of the very same inflation target he preaches to the hardworking people of our land. The Reserve Bank’s annual report shows that his salary rose to a whopping R3,8 million from the R2,98 million he earned last year, clearly a stark contrast to his quest to keep the rate of inflation between the target range of 3% and 6%.  Even worse, his two deputies, Xolile Guma and Renosi Mokate received pay hikes of 66% and 73% respectively sending them into the upper R2 millions.  It must be nice to work for the Bank......read more

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) has decided to support the protest march to the 28th Summit of SADC (Southern African Development Community) Heads of State which will take place this Saturday (16 August)  at the Sandton Convention Centre. As well all know, the SADC member countries are generally democratic and prosperous countries where the rule of law protects citizens from exploitation.  This is, however, not the case with our neighbours, Zimbabwe and Swaziland.  While Zimbabwe remains to be under the control of an illegitimate state president and a few members of the elite in police and armed forces, Swaziland’s monarch remains set on banning certain political parties and participation by organised labour in general.....read more

URGENT OPEN LETTER: INTEREST RATE CONSIDERATION (13 August 2008)

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) wants to urge your good self to pay fair consideration to the current situation faced by our citizens, and specifically by vulnerable workers. The global trend of skyrocketing prices has extended its reach to our shores, and salary and wage earners are really feeling the pinch. Most salary and wage earners are forced to purchase or rent

accommodation on a monthly basis and therefore need to borrow money........read more

As we celebrate National Women’s Day on 9 August 2008, the Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) applauds all women of South Africa for their courage and determination to stand up for women workers’ rights “It is still evident that in South Africa women face multiple forms of discrimination in both policy and practice on a daily basis.
