FEDUSA is affiliated to the ICFTU (International Confederation of Free Trade Unions). The ICFTU Steering Committee accepted FEDUSA's application to affiliate on 23 June 1998. This decision was subsequently ratified by the ICFTU National Execution Committee during November 1998.

As result of this affiliation FEDUSA is a fully fledged member of the International Labour Community thereby bringing it into touch with various issues affecting Southern Africa, Africa and the World. On 20 November 2000 the ICFTU had 156 376 123 members in 221 affiliated organisations in 148 countries.

The ICFTU had it's last world conference in Mayazaki, Japan in December 2004. Four representatives from FEDUSA joined 800 delegates at the conference.
