Media Release

12 July 2018

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) has welcomed the reinstatement of South African Airways Express (SA Express)’s Aircraft Maintenance Organisation (AMO) Certificate by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) after satisfying quality standards prescribed by the regulator.

SA Express said a task team made up by members of the newly appointed Board, the Department of Public Enterprises Ministerial Intervention Team and its specialist employees had worked hard to implement corrective AMO measures recommended by the Civil Aviation Authority and was working towards reclaiming nature Air Operator’s Certificate.

“Today, the final phase of the five-phase CAA process to re-certify the airline’s Air Operators Certificate (AOC) has commenced. As soon as the SA Express AOC has been reinstated by the CAA, the airline will be ready to again fly its passengers in comfort and safety,” SA Express said in a statement.

FEDUSA General Secretary Dennis George was happy that these latest development showed that the Public Enterprises Department and management of SA Express were committed to saving members’ jobs and providing a safe and affordable air passenger service.
