Stay Alive to Preserve Our Rainbow Heritage – FEDUSA

24 September 2021

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) has urged South Africans to get fully vaccinated in order to preserve the Nation’s Heritage, this Heritage Day and this Heritage Month. Ours is a Rainbow Heritage because it is an offspring born of a marriage knot tied up in all cultural colours, all cultural beliefs and all cultural practices. It is not a loose knot. It is a precious knot.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic threatens to cut this multi-coloured knot in the cruellest and most brutal of ways. Killing the mother. Killing the father. Killing the offspring. That is, if we allow ourselves to let our guard down by lending our rainbow ears to the anti-vaxxers’ scarecrow gobbledygook and hocus pocus about the mark of the beast and Bill Gates’ colourless micro-chip that has been cleverly hidden in the colourless vaccine.

We have to stay alive to preserve our Heritage. We can only stay alive by rolling up our sleeves for the jab. Lifeless bodies cannot preserve Heritage, tangible and intangible, for future offsprings. For the second year running, there won’t  any public gathering allowed to celebrate Heritage Day. It will be yet another fully fledged online affair in order to curb the spread of COVID-19. This time hosted by the Western Cape Provincial government, with a keynote address by President Ramaphosa. To save lives. To save our Heritage.

However, as the federation spreads the massage of full vaccination, it respects the rights of all those who may not be keen to get vaccinated  against COVID-19 on religious, medical or constitutional grounds. FEDUSA would like to wish all South Africans a happy Heritage Day.
