FEDUSA WELCOMES AGOA EXTENSION

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) welcomes the extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) through to the end of 2028. The United States Senate has approved a crucial two-year extension of AGOA, but the Bill still requires the signature of United States President Donald Trump.

The extension presents an important opportunity to support continued economic growth and transformation while enabling South African businesses, particularly small and emerging enterprises, to expand their customer base, increase revenue and access global markets without facing steep import tariffs. FEDUSA urges South African businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, to make full use of this opportunity.

The confirmation of South Africa’s continued eligibility for AGOA is welcomed by FEDUSA, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding the country’s participation amid strained relations between South Africa and the United States.

FEDUSA calls on government, business and social partners to work together to maximise the benefits of AGOA and ensure that South African businesses, workers and the broader economy benefit from this opportunity.
