The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) supports its affiliate, the Public Servants Association (PSA), in calling for urgent accountability following the serious findings relating to irregular expenditure and procurement processes within the Department of Defence.
The reported findings by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) raise significant concerns about governance, financial oversight and the responsible use of public funds. FEDUSA believes that allegations of this nature must be subjected to due process, transparent investigation and decisive action where wrongdoing is established.
Public resources must serve the public interest and strengthen essential services and institutions, not be lost through irregularities or corruption.
FEDUSA therefore supports the PSA’s call for appropriate parliamentary oversight and for any funds found to have been improperly spent to be recovered and redirected towards strengthening South Africa’s defence capabilities and supporting workers.
Accountability, transparency and consequence management must remain central to building a public service that South Africans can trust.
