FEDUSA Welcomes Fuel Price Decrease as Relief for Workers and Households

09 January 2026

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) welcomes the recent fuel price decreases which have provided much needed relief to motorists across the country. This reduction comes as a timely intervention for many households and will allow families to redirect limited financial resources towards other essential needs such as food, transport, education, and healthcare.

The decrease comes at a time when the cost of living remains unacceptably high, with many workers and households forced to dig deep into their pockets to sustain themselves and support their dependents. Any form of relief, particularly in fuel prices, has a positive effect across the economy.

While FEDUSA acknowledges that fuel prices are influenced by global market fluctuations and various external factors, we remain hopeful for further reductions that will bring meaningful and sustained relief to all sectors of the economy. Lower fuel prices ease pressure not only on individual motorists but also on businesses that rely heavily on transportation and logistics.

Importantly, reduced fuel costs benefit critical sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing, while also stimulating economic activity by increasing consumers’ buying power and supporting economic growth.

FEDUSA calls on government and all stakeholders to continue pursuing and advocating for policies and interventions that promote affordability, economic growth, and social well-being for all South Africans.
