FEDUSA SUPPORTS NUHRCCHAW STRIKE AT PREMIER HOTEL OR TAMBO

FEDUSA SUPPORTS NUHRCCHAW STRIKE AT PREMIER HOTEL OR TAMBO

10 July 2026 The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) expresses its full support for its affiliate, the National Union of Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Commercial, Health and Allied Workers (NUHRCCHAW), which is currently engaged in a protected strike at Premier Hotel OR Tambo since Monday.     The strike follows a deadlock in wage negotiations after the parties failed to reach agreement on key worker demands. These include an 8% wage increase, regulated working hours of 195 hours per month, and the payment of a bonus equivalent to a full or half month’s salary. Premier Hotel OR Tambo has offered a 4.25% wage increase, which falls short of workers’ expectations and does not adequately respond to the rising cost of living.    Additional concerns raised by workers include the employer’s refusal to offer incentives unless targets are met, and the failure to increase transport and food allowances. The current food allowance stands at R7, while workers are reportedly provided with only two slices of bread per day. Workers have also raised concerns regarding the handling of tips, with workers receiving only R200 of their earned tips.  Furthermore, the hotel does not provide transport for employees after 23h00, placing workers’ safety at risk.    FEDUSA maintains that workers deserve fair and just compensation that reflects both their contribution and the current economic realities. Employers have a responsibility to respect workers’ rights and engage in meaningful negotiations that lead to positive outcomes for all  parties involved.     FEDUSA will continue to support NUHRCCHAW and closely monitor developments as engagement between the parties progresses.   END.
