FEDUSA CALLS FOR LABOUR LAW COMPLIANCE FOLLOWING DEATH OF CARTRACK EMPLOYEE

FEDUSA CALLS FOR LABOUR LAW COMPLIANCE FOLLOWING DEATH OF CARTRACK

10 June 2026

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) has noted with shock and sadness reports surrounding the death of Cartrack employee, Gcina Dhladhla, who suffered a medical emergency while on duty at the company’s Rosebank offices on Saturday. The tragic incident has raised serious concerns regarding conditions of work, employee wellbeing, and compliance with labour legislation in South African workplaces.

FEDUSA extends its deepest condolences to Ms Dhladhla’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. We trust that the relevant investigations will establish the full facts and circumstances surrounding her death. This tragedy serves as a reminder that every employer has a legal and moral obligation to protect the health, safety and dignity of workers. FEDUSA reminds employers and employees alike that the Basic Conditions of Employment Act provides for paid sick leave and sets out clear obligations regarding its administration. Workers must be able to exercise these rights without fear, intimidation or undue pressure.

FEDUSA further cautions employers that failure to comply with labour legislation and basic working conditions constitutes a serious violation of workers’ rights. Employers found to be undermining labour laws must be held accountable through the appropriate legal and regulatory mechanisms.

END.
