FEDUSA SUPPORTS MINISTER FIROZ CACHALIA’S STANCE ON TEMBISA HOSPITAL CORRUPTION

FEDUSA SUPPORTS MINISTER FIROZ CACHALIA’S STANCE ON TEMBISA HOSPITAL

16 October 2025

Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) fully supports the stance taken by Acting Minister of Police, Firoz Cachalia, in addressing the ongoing corruption at Tembisa Hospital. We also echo the call made by our affiliate, the Public Servants Association (PSA), for urgent and comprehensive investigations into corruption not only at Tembisa Hospital but across all public hospitals and government institutions.

The corruption and scandals surrounding Tembisa Hospital have been in the media for years, with new revelations surfacing regularly. The continued corruption at public hospitals and government institutions is an indication of lack of accountability within the public service.

FEDUSA is outraged by the spate of corruption that continuously undermines our public institutions that are crucial in our development. Those responsible must face the full might of the law and repay every cent stolen from those institutions at the expense of many South Africans.

Public services are the foundation of national development. Any disruption to these essential services, especially due to criminal activities and corruption, must be treated as a threat to national security and a violation of basic human rights.

The ongoing looting of public funds continues to deny government institutions the capacity to deliver quality services to the public. Corruption has robbed all South Africans of the full benefits of public service delivery, particularly in healthcare and other critical sectors.

FEDUSA calls for urgent action from all relevant authorities to end corruption in government institutions, ensure transparency, and restore public trust in government institutions.
